Assessment and Testing
Assessment procedures are built into our curriculum planning. Children are continuously assessed by their teachers in terms of the skills, concepts and attitudes relevant to each subject. When children join the Reception classes, baseline testing is carried out so that teaching staff can learn what skills individual children have already acquired. In the Summer term each year we conduct formal assessments in English and Maths for all the children from Y2 through to Y6, which are used to monitor progress and standards.
At the end of Key Stage 2 (i.e. at the end of Y6), the children will take Standardised Assessment Tests (SATs). These are combined with Teacher Assessments to give an indication of the levels at which the child is performing in relation to their peers, and also in relation to national levels of performance, in English, Maths and Science. From 2005 the National Curriculum Assessment at KS1 has been based solely on Teacher Assessment.
The results of any tests are communicated to parents at parents’ consultation evenings or in their child’s Annual Report at the end of the year.
